getting a little dumber (thanks, lead paint!)

It’s been (too many) weeks since we posted about our progress. Between various illnesses and an unyielding travel schedule, it has been a while since we accomplished much of anything on the house.

This weekend changed that, as we tackled a big job: refinishing the floors in one of the upstairs rooms. It actually wasn’t a project on the to-do list…the floors were painted white and at first it hadn’t seemed like it would be worth trying to sand them down, so we were just planning on painting another layer on them. But McKenna got a hankering to seeing if it was possible to salvage the wood beneath. 10+ hours of sanding—and unthinkable amounts of lead paint dust inhaled—and voila!

They’re not quite done yet, but you can definitely tell it’s wood.
