getting a little dumber (thanks, lead paint!)
It’s been (too many) weeks since we posted about our progress. Between various illnesses and an unyielding travel schedule, it has been a while since we accomplished much of anything on the house.
This weekend changed that, as we tackled a big job: refinishing the floors in one of the upstairs rooms. It actually wasn’t a project on the to-do list…the floors were painted white...

This weekend Marshall’s friend Kyle came up from Portland for a visit and we didn’t let him escape without contributing some sweat equity. The new stove
You may know that getting a new stove has been high on the priority list for us. For reasons more complicated than are worth recounting, there was not one we could use when we moved in. For a while, this was okay — in the summer, we mostly grilled outside on our new grill (thanks Mom!) — but the time came that we really needed a stove indoors.

Installing Windows
Marshall’s been traveling for the past…ahem…several weeks and McKenna is starting her graduate program, so there has not been much time for home improvement work lately. However, on Marshall’s most recent 36-hour stopover in Seattle, we did manage to install some Milgard windows in the basement room that will soon (we hope!) be our bedroom.

Insulation and Drywall
McKenna just finished a two-week marathon of remodeling work under the guidance of Magali, who came up from Santa Cruz to offer her remodeling knowledge and skills. The big project on the docket was adding insulation and drywall to the soon-to-be bedroom downstairs.
